Three Powerful Words

Back before COVID, I took a 10-month leadership course – it was among the best experiences I’ve ever had. I spent 4 weeks (spread out over the 10 months) near Asheville, N.C. on a spectacularly beautiful property. I met wonderful people, I learned so much about myself, I ate the most delicious meals prepared by an incredible chef, I got WAY outside my comfort zone, and of course I learned a ton about leadership.

And with all of that… one of the most impactful take-aways of the entire experience was three simple words: “Up until now.”

Beginning a sentence with “up until now” is obviously pretty simple, yet can be incredibly powerful when applied.

Instead of saying, “I can’t” or “I don’t” or “I’m not able to”…. I TRY to begin instead with “up until now.”
